2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the Tulip Festival on Parliament Hill. These flowers were a gift of thanks from the Netherlands for providing protection to the Dutch royal family during the Second World War.
The tulip represents our wish to welcome and protect refugees and immigrants and to see them flourish in Canada.
